Deal of the Day: Google Buys The Dealmap

We’re thrilled to announce that The Dealmap has been acquired by Google.

Since launching The Dealmap in May 2010, our team has worked to build a great product where people can find and share all the best local deals, all in one place. In our first year alone, The Dealmap grew to more than two million users of our web, mobile, social and email products, and more than 85 million monthly visitors to our partner network. The journey that has led to this outcome has been an invigorating and rewarding one, and we are very proud of the innovative products and industry “firsts” we’ve created along the way.

We believe Google provides the ideal platform to help us accelerate our growth and fulfill our mission. We’re passionate about helping people save money while having great local experiences, and in Google we’ve found the perfect partner that shares this passion, as well as our vision and strategy. We believe that joining Google will help us innovate in new and unexplored areas of commerce.

For the time being, we will continue to support The Dealmap's core products and partner services. People will still be able to access local and daily deals through The Dealmap website, mobile apps, and daily email, and we’ll continue supporting The Dealmap API and feeds for existing sourcing and distribution partners. As we’re ready to share more about integration and transition plans, we’ll update our partners and consumers on progress and any news.

Until then, we’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who has made reaching this milestone a possibility – our investors, our partners, all the people who sent us great feedback and encouragement, and especially the more than 2 million people who use our products.

Cheers,

The Dealmap Team

Daily Deal Inventory Market Share & Consumer Insights

Yesterday, we gave a presentation highlighting some interesting industry data at the BIA/Kelsey Deals 3D conference.  Because we work with more than 450 unique sourcing partners and over 50 distribution partners, we're in a unique position to analyze industry data and trends.

Some findings we uncovered include:
  • The top 20 sites account for 80% of daily deal inventory
  • Half of daily deal sources have only 1-2 deals available each day
  • Only 4% of daily deal providers have a national footprint
You can view all the data we shared and our presentation below:

You can also read BIA/Kelsey's recap of the presentation on their blog.
